The time before the birth of a baby is one of anxious anticipation. Expectant parents are filled with emotions, preparing excitedly for the arrival of a little boy or girl, going anxiously from doctor’s appointments to baby showers to birth classes.
The nine months leading up to the birth of a baby can feel like centuries. That said, they are quite necessary in order to make sure that everything is set and prepared. There are tons of decisions to be made and plans to be arranged, ranging from names to doctors.
One of the most fun, but sometimes most difficult, decisions to be tackled is that of decoration. Buying baby furniture and accessories is a fantastic way to get excited about and prepared for a new baby boy or girl. Nevertheless, it requires a fair amount of thought.
There are tons of options when it comes to decorating. Some parents opt for the most elaborate themes, painting murals on walls, buying cribs shaped like cars and investing in tons of cartoon-themed bedding and furniture. Other parents go with a more minimal style, decorating in simple pink or blue and even choosing neutral colors like yellow and purple.
Parents have every right to decorate and buy furniture according to whatever their hearts desire. Nevertheless, it is never a bad idea to keep in mind what the future holds for furniture and designs and consider possible transitions when a baby has grown.
What does this mean? A rocking chair purchased for mom and baby will be great to have long after baby is grown and breast-feeding is over. However, if that rocking chair is covered with Mickey Mouse stickers seemingly impossible to peel off, it could be lost.
It is not a bad idea to purchase furniture and decorate rooms keeping future use in mind.
Cradles and cribs, of course, will not be of use once a baby has grown (unless, of course, one has other babies). Other pieces of furniture like dressers and chairs can be preserved. It is important to try to invest in furniture that can be reused with little effort. This saves money and time later on.
Decorating can be a bit more complicated than furnishing. That said, neutral paint colors and fabrics can be used for other purposes besides babies. Moreover, parents may soon find their children growing out of their baby-themed rooms, and it may be best to be prepared that moment before it arrives.
Purchasing decorations and furniture is just one item on the list of expectant parents. It is a fun and exciting task, but also one that requires a certain amount of prudence for the sake of the future.
